PRODUCT TREATMENT
The logs are worked
as soon as they reach the yard to reduce the risk of raw material
degeneration, related to - for example - oxidation, insect attacks,
mould or cracks that can effect the quality and the physical-mechanical
characteristics of the product. The logs are sawed, cut to strips
and packaged on pallets to be seasoned either in an indoor,
shaded naturally ventilated area or in special pre-drying cells
for a time which varies according to the species, the thickness
and the origin. Homogenous batches, in terms of origin, degree
of humidity and thickness of strips - are then arranged for
drying in modern electronically controlled kilns. The drying
programs are species-specific so to safeguard the physical characteristics
of each type of timber.
. This is an extremely delicate phase since the right percentage
of humidity is essential to ensure stable flooring after laying
without the risk of swelling or cracking.
The subsequent stabilisation process is carried out in two steps.
The first stabilisation phase is carried out at the end of the
drying process, according to species-specific programs. The
programs have been modified to implement our personal knowledge.
Upon leaving the dryers, each pack is cooled and subjected to
scrupulous inspections to monitor the obtained degree of humidity.
Any imperfect packs are rejected at this time.
The second stabilisation phase is conducted outside the kilns
in an indoor, shaded location for a variable time according
to the shape and timber species.
The objective is to work materials at the right time to minimise
the difference in humidity from one part to another. Balanced
humidity varies from countries of temperate climate - such as
Europe, North America and the Far East - to countries of humid
climate - such as South East Asia.
Consequently, the humidity in our wood it taken to 8 - 9% for
use in temperate climates and to 12 - 13% for use in humid climates.
PROCESSES
AND SELECTIONS
Processing is carried
out employing technologically advanced machines operated by
extremely skilled personnel who are able to follow market development
trends and manage technological evolution. The instruments and
tools employed are supplied by major European companies.
FINISHED
PRODUCT INSPECTIONS
Each individual
part, regardless of its size, is subjected to visual and manual
inspections on the six sides. This inspection procedure allows
classification of elements according to the grain and colour
and elimination of any physical defects.
In addition to characteristic information - such as selection,
colour and size - other data, including processing date, production
batch and code indicating personnel in charge of processing
and selecting is applied onto each pack.
SELECTIONS
Our parquet flooring
is classified while it is being processed according to
different market specific selection procedures to ensure constant
suitability for use.
All our selections are free of defects which may undermine the
physical integrity of the timber.
